And End for All Things

Well, after only a year of being in business, Quickturn Cycles is being forced to close its doors this week. It's been really fun, but the powers that be say that we can't have our shop anymore.
If we can find another location to call home that will put up with our irregular hours, loud music, and funny smells, maybe this all won't be for naught.
I'm really disappointed in this outcome, but we'll see if I can finish up the project bike I've been working on.

Moto-what now?

So working part-time at a motorcycle shop gives me a lot of good opportunities to learn the ins and outs of motorcycles. Case in point, I had on-hand reference when drawing this 2006 GSX-R. Every nut and bolt has been lovingly placed, and many motorcycle enthusiasts agree that this is a well represented bike.

Now if I could just get the rider to look right...

Just Another Hangover Tour

I've been working up some T-Shirt designs for a stand up Comedian friend of mine. He's roaming cross-country doing stand-up at places you've never heard of. His "Just Another Hangover Tour" is in the midwest right now.

Check him out at JustAnotherHangover.com (NSFW)

The Consuela

In addition to having a part-time job on the regular, I am also apprenticing at a motorcycle shop, experimenting with bodywork, design, and painting techniques.

My current project is redoing the body work for a former race bike. I'm picking up where someone left off, evidently, and I've been spending many days sanding, prepping, & painting this motorcycle to salvage the botched paint job the last guy left.

The motorcycle itself is a 1993 Honda CBR900RR, and the owner asked me to design an eye-catching graphic to really bring out the spirit of the bike. Here's what I was able to come up with. The motorcycle itself is about 80% complete with the basecoat all laid down. We are waiting on more paint to start work on the graphic. You can see on the tail section a mascot girl for the shop and, lord willing, the eventual race team. Hence the name, Consuela.

Clearing the Cobwebs

I'm not usually disposed to reciting syllogisms at length (wait, yes I am), particularly when I feel the need to defend my position, especially when it just seems like I'm making excuses for everything being late or delayed. More often than not, I tend to misprioritize and end up leaving things hanging, the result often being disappointing or downright infuriating. I know in the past this has often led to confused or dissatisfied clients.

Allow me to make one thing perfectly clear: My life is crazy. Period. When it comes to my artwork, nothing pains me more than having too much to do and not enough time to do it properly.

The purpose of keeping this blog is to optimise my workflow a bit, and I thought that keeping track of my ongoing exploits and side projects would help to keep things moving.

I would like nothing more than to be professional and organized.
